Cruise & Ferry Review - Autumn/Winter 2026

29 Damen Shiprepair completes dry dockings for Holland America Line, TUI Cruises and Ponant Damen Shiprepair has completed cruise vessel maintenance projects across its yards in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Brest, France. The team in Rotterdam serviced two major cruise ships simultaneously. Holland America Line’s MS Rotterdam underwent a five-year survey, thruster maintenance and hull repainting in the 405 by 90-metre drydock in Botlek, while TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 3 entered the Schiedam dock for steel renewal on its bow, along with painting and thruster work. Both ships are now prepared for the summer sailing season. Meanwhile, Damen’s yard in Brest, France, took on a more specialised assignment: a five-year survey and maintenance project for Ponant’s polar expedition vessel Le Commandant Charcot, which features a Polar Class 2 hull capable of breaking ice up to 2.5 metres thick. The work included hull treatment, servicing of safety and expedition systems, and an overhaul of the ship’s propulsion – with particular focus on its azipod thrusters, ice-strengthened propellers, LNG propulsion and stabilisers. The ship has since departed for its summer Arctic and North Pole voyages.
