20 A new 48-metre catamaran ferry designed by Incat Crowther is now in construction at Midship Marine in Louisiana, USA, for operator Hy-Line Cruises, based on Cape Cod, USA. The 493-passenger ferry will be capable of reaching speeds in excess of 30 knots and has been designed specifically for the conditions experienced off the coast of Cape Cod. It is expected to be completed by 2028 and will operate on tourism and commercial routes connecting Hyannis, Massachusetts, with the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. “This vessel is custom-designed and built in the US and is an example of Incat Crowther’s sovereign design and build capabilities for North American operators,” said Grant Pecoraro, managing director North America at Incat Crowther. “This project also renews our successful partnership with Hy-Line Cruises, and we’re delighted to be supporting the expansion of their fleet to meet growing customer demand.” New catamaran ferry in construction for Hy-Line Cruises in Cape Cod Spanish ferry line Baleària has completed its takeover of Naviera Armas Transmediterránea, following clearance from competition authorities and the acquisition of assets, including four ships, in the Alboran Sea and Strait of Gibraltar. This follows Baleària’s acquisition of Armas Transmediterránea’s Canary Islands operations, which now carry the brand Baleària Canarias. The Baleària group now has nearly 4,500 employees and more than 50 vessels and expects to exceed eight million passengers in 2026. Baleària president Adolfo Utor said that the line is embracing this growth as the leading Spanish-owned ferry operator, with a presence on all domestic coastal routes and capable of guaranteeing the strategic and essential nature of maritime transport for the country’s territorial cohesion and integration.
