Cruise & Ferry Review - Autumn/Winter 2020

2 7 Though the global industry remains paused as a result of Covid-19, cruise lines are seeking to restart operation in Taiwan. The country has been conducting border control policies since early 2020, allowing it to largely control the impact of the virus. After months of detailed planning with the authorities to ensure the safety and health of guests and crew, the proposal was approved by Taiwan’s Maritime and Port Bureau and Central Epidemic Command Center. Explorer Dream departed on the first voyage from Keelung on 26 July, with the cruise line reporting sold-out sailings throughout August. Cruise operations resume in Taiwan British-born expedition cruise line Swan Hellenic is set to return to the cruise industry with two newbuild expedition vessels in 2021, both of which will be built at Finland’s Helsinki shipyard and accommodate 152 guests and 120 crew members.
