41 Longer itineraries include the 12-night ‘In Search of Northern Lights’ cruise, which sails from London, UK, to Tromsø, Norway; the 14-night ‘British Isles Explorer’, which sails from Bergen, Norway, to London; the 15-night ‘Malta, Morocco & The Mediterranean’ voyage, which sails roundtrip from Barcelona; and the 28-night ‘Scandinavia & the British Isles’ and ‘Baltic Jewels & the Midnight Sun’ itineraries, both of which depart from London. Viking Libra is the cruise line’s 14th ocean-going vessel and will offer six categories of accommodation across 499 all-veranda staterooms; the ship will accommodate 998 guests in total. Viking Libra shares the Scandinavian design and small-ship experience found across Viking’s fleet. However, the ship’s propulsion system will be based partially on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. “The vessel will be capable of operating with zero emissions, which will allow it to access even the most environmentally sensitive areas,” says Atkin-Smith. “The system will be capable of producing up to six megawatts of power. Hydrogen was chosen because it represents a genuine zero-emission solution and supports our long-term commitment to reducing fuel consumption. As the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions, Viking Libra marks an important milestone for both Viking and the wider cruise industry, and we look forward to welcoming guests onboard during its inaugural season.” “ The Mediterranean and Northern Europe are particularly well suited to our destination-focused itineraries” The ship will sail a 12-night ‘In Search of Northern Lights’ itinerary from London, UK, to Tromsø in Norway Photo: Unsplash/Lightscape MAIDEN SEASON
