Cruise & Ferry Interiors 2026

88 INTERIOR COMMENTARY Original interior design always gives a ship or yacht a sharper identity, a stronger commercial edge and a more distinctive, memorable guest experience. It requires creative minds, but also a clear vision from the outset. When hardware and software are aligned, the result is both creatively compelling and commercially powerful, strengthening the brand and helping it stand out in an increasingly competitive market. At Tillberg Design of Sweden, we have seen the value of this in projects such as Four Seasons Yachts’ Four Seasons I, the new generation of Princess Cruises ships and Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s Evrima. For each of these, we acted as either sole or coordinating architects to shape distinctive brand and design manifestos, which we then used as a north star to ensure spatial planning, materials, colours, furnishings, atmosphere and service expression form a coherent, original whole. For Four Seasons Yachts, we took inspiration from the golden age of yachting, particularly its glamour, intimacy and sense of occasion, but our ambition was never to create something purely nostalgic. Instead, the aim was to reinterpret those qualities for a contemporary Four Seasons guest in a way that feels completely original. The result is lighter, more open and more attuned to modern lifestyles. For Princess Cruises, we led the development of the overall design identity for the new class of ships, shaping a light and transparent architectural expression, which we defined through authentic, natural finishes and textures, drawing on a fresh interpretation of relaxed coastal living. This created a clear creative framework for the six design firms involved, allowing individual freedom while ensuring a very successful, coherent visual identity across the ship’s architectural language, detailing and material palette. For Ritz-Carlton’s Evrima, we set out to evoke the experience of a contemporary private yacht, and that ambition informed every aspect of the design, from the exterior expression and master planning to the interior layouts, clean lines and refined detailing. Just as importantly, this vision helped define a more intimate and anticipatory service experience, aligned with the spatial character of the yacht. Looking ahead, the cruise ship interior design projects that stand apart will do so by embracing originality not as an optional layer, but as the foundation - where design shapes not only spaces, but cruise line brand identity and legacy.
