91 INTERVIEW Gerolamo Scorza is one of the oldest marine outfitters in the world, having been founded back in 1898. Over the years, the company has evolved from offering carpentry services for wooden vessels to outfitting and refurbishing ships in the present day. “With over 127 years of history, Gerolamo Scorza has earned a solid reputation as a reliable contractor for passenger vessels,” says Alfredo De Flora, the firm’s managing director. “Our work spans newbuild projects, refurbishments and converting spaces to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.” “Being part of the holding GIN (Genova Industrie Navali) group gives us greater visibility in the market and expands our professional network. The strong synergy with other companies in the group allows us to approach projects from a broader perspective and ensures we have the expert support needed at every stage from design to execution.” The legacy of Gerolamo Scorza’s long history also remains through its in-house workshop, which is able to produce custom furniture for each of its projects. “Our technical team is experienced in identifying optimal solution in terms of quality and sustainability,” says De Flora. “With a workforce of carpenters, steel workers, painters and more, we deliver work that meets both client and passenger expectations.” “Producing key elements in-house allows us to maintain strict control over both quality and scheduling, something increasingly rare in today’s market.” says De Flora. “This internal production capability also gives us the flexibility to respond quickly to last-minute client requests for changes or additions.” Alongside ongoing newbuild projects with Oceania Cruises, Explora Journeys and Four Seasons Yachts, Gerolamo Scorza has secured several new contracts for the next few years. “We’ve recently secured prestigious contracts to outfit two Regent Seven Seas Cruises and two Oceania Cruises luxury ships, with the potential for two additional vessels if the client confirms the options,” says De Flora. “Next spring, we’ll refurbish the spa and gym areas on two Carnival Cruise Line ships in Cadiz, Spain. These areas will be fully upgraded and brought into ADA compliance, enhancing accessibility while delivering a more luxurious guest experience. We’ll also work with a new partner to refurbish the lobby and staircases of a beautifully designed ship – it will be an exciting and visually impactful project.” Gerolamo Scorza outfitted the public toilets onboard Explora Journeys’ luxury cruise ships Growing a legacy Alfredo De Flora tells Alex Smith how Gerolamo Scorza is building on its 127-year history with outfitting projects across the passenger shipping industry “ Gerolamo Scorza has earned a solid reputation as a reliable contractor for passenger vessels”
