71 REVITALISATION Upping the ante Alice Chambers reports on Royal Caribbean International’s $100 million renovation project onboard Allure of the Seas Photo: Royal Caribbean International Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas has undergone a $100 million renovation as part of the line’s Royal Amplified programme, which was first introduced in 2018. The 15-year-old ship, which originally launched in 2010, has been upgraded with many of the standout features found on Royal Caribbean’s latest vessels Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas. “From the new Icon and Utopia of the Seas to this $100 million transformation of Allure of the Seas, we have upped the ante threefold on how vacationers can get away and make lasting memories with Royal Caribbean,” says Jay Schneider, chief product innovation officer at Royal Caribbean International. “Allure has been reimagined with the best of Royal Caribbean and the things travellers love most. Between new favourites, like the Pesky Parrot tiki bar, and experiences that unlock core memories time and time again, from an incredible pool deck to an unmatched combination of thrills and ways to chill, Allure has even more of everything that makes it a standout favourite.” The ship’s Caribbean pool deck has been transformed and now includes resort-style pools, in-water loungers, daybeds and private casitas. It also features ‘the perfect storm’ waterslides – Cyclone, Typhoon and the Supercell champagne bowl – as well as the child-friendly Splashaway Bay, which has slides, water cannons, fountains, pools and whirlpools. Adults can visit the “laidback” adults-only escape called the Solarium, home to the Samba Grill and other bars. New and returning dining venues include El Loco Fresh for Mexican food, the signature Lime & Coconut poolside bar, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, and the Southern American-inspired Mason Jar restaurant, which debuted on Wonder of the Seas. Guests seeking an exclusive retreat can opt for the new Ultimate Panoramic Suites above Allure’s bridge, which offer 200-degree ocean views. Meanwhile, entertainment and activity highlights include the Royal Escape Room: Apollo 18 Lunar Landing, laser tag, surf simulators and rock climbing, as well as air, ice, water and stage shows. A team of 2,300 contractors worked on the ship’s revamp at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain, between February 2025 and its completion in April 2025 when the ship resumed service with a roundtrip from Barcelona, Spain, calling at Majorca and Italy.
