Cruise & Ferry Review - Spring/Summer 2024

121 The Data Recorder Range from AMI offers a dashcam-type capability specifically designed for the marine industry to safeguard shipowners’ assets and offer crucial evidence to assist with post-event investigations, including insurance claims. Data recorders serve as a backup, offering significant protection for the vessel, crew and passengers, ensuring that personnel operations and safety procedures are followed consistently. Along with VDR and S-VDR systems, AMI’s smaller vessel Mini Data Recorder Range can accurately record vessel movements, positioning and radio communications out at sea, as well as in harbours and ports. The X-MDR offers an optional CCTV function together with complimentary lifetime playback software, adding support to busy passenger vessels which encounter an unlikely event worthy of investigation. Survitec’s Seahaven is the world’s largest inflatable lifeboat, designed to evacuate 1,060 persons in fewer than 22 minutes. Seahaven is autonomous in nature, launching and inflating with the push of a button. Not only does the Seahaven lifeboat automatic feature provide significantly reduced risks for crew, but with a single deck stowage footprint of 16.3 by 3.6 metres, Seahaven can also free up to 85 per cent of deck space for other uses. Consequently, Seahaven provides a suitable option for cruise ship operators and naval architects wanting to remodel the space normally given to conventional lifeboats and davits for additional cabins, enhanced passenger experience and revenuegenerating opportunities, all while enabling them to maintain high safety standards.
