MARKETWATCH Port of Sydney in Nova Scotia, Canada, will welcome three ships on 15 September, making use of its new Liberty Pier. Liberty Pier was constructed in 2020 at a cost of $20 million but has never hosted a cruise ship due to the pandemic. The first to berth at Liberty Pier will be Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Navigator, which will arrive at 9:00 (ADT). The port has planned a celebration involving the ship, crew, local dignitaries, residents and port staff. Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess will arrive at the port’s main dock at 8:00 while Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisperer will be at anchor from 12:00. Building a second berth has increased Port of Sydney’s capacity to host cruise ships and improve passenger experience. Cruising brings an average of $50-60 million to the local economy and the port hopes to increase this now that Liberty Pier has opened.
