1 7 7 chance to see 10 of the industry’s most environmentally friendly innovations. “We had a great show and – with sustainability at the centre – there was a special focus on our Origin carpet solution based on undyed wool,” says Lone Ditmar, marketing manager at Dansk Wilton. “Our RE:SHAPE pilot project – with signs made from recycled carpet waste – was very well-received.” Other innovations along the route included DAMPA’s new aluminium ceiling material, which is made of 75 per cent postconsumer recycled aluminium and reduces the firm’s carbon footprint by 69 per cent. “CSI Miami has given us an opportunity to share ideas and embrace sustainability in ship design,” says Bente Medelbye Hansen, design director at Steen Friis Design. “Every player in this industry has an environmental responsibility, and we can achieve so much more together.” Following the day’s theme of sustainability, Captain Antonio Prestigiacomo from assurance and risk management firm DNV and Trond Sigurdsen from YSA Design hosted a workshop outlining how organisations can use certifications to demonstrate their green credentials. Suppliers gathered at the CSI Plus lounge – sponsored by YSA Design – to learn about the green credentials cruise lines and designers are looking for. “A big thank you to YSA Design for choosing Flotex FR for the CSI Plus lounge – the design, inspired by Van Gogh, really brought the whole stand together,” says Emily May Hancock, marketing coordinator at Forbo Flooring. “Customers who visited our stand were keen to learn more about our IMO-certified flooring products and how Forbo can improve onboard marine environments.” Day two concluded with a sustainability-focused keynote, ‘Designing to Last’, moderated by Studio DADO’s Greg Walton. Holland America Group’s My Nguyen, Virgin Voyages’ Dee Cooper, Royal Caribbean Group’s Joanna Gonzalez-Guerra and Studio Berg’s Petra Ryberg discussed how cruise interiors can be designed for greater longevity. Nguyen is a strong advocate of the show: “From the high-quality exhibitors and inspiring conference sessions to the networking events and industry connections – this show checks all of the boxes for us.” Summing up the show, Scammell says: “We discussed what makes great designs and the only conclusion that I could draw is that our industry is full of excellent examples – thanks to all of you!” CFR “ From the high-quality exhibitors and inspiring conference sessions to the networking events and industry connections – this show checks all of the boxes for us” My Nguyen, Holland America Group Cruise Ship Interiors Expo America was officially opened by members of the advisory board
