Several spaces, such as the pool deck, spa and the Voyage Vinyl record shop, have also been designed to accommodate live DJ sets and parties after nightfall. One of the many new onboard productions that has proven to be consistently popular with sailors is Duel Reality, a contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s classic play Romeo and Juliet, which is hosted in The Red Room. “The production was developed by The 7 Fingers, a creative collective of writers, directors and choreographers who have mastered the art of telling compelling stories through acrobatics, dance and theatre,” says Kilman. “The audience is divided into two and sits either side of our alley stage theatre (which is unique to the cruise industry) to cheer on the performers during multiple ‘I can’t believe they just did that’ stunts.” Another guest favourite is Scarlet Night, Virgin’s signature dance party, which was conceived by American playwright, producer and theatre and nightclub owner Randy Weiner. The event is designed to lead sailors on a journey around the ship to see art installations, circus acts, cabaret, and many other performances. “Sailors are encouraged to wear a splash of red and enjoy numerous pop-up performances and immersive experiences throughout the ship – either as a spectator or a participant,” says Kilman. “The evening culminates in an epic pool party featuring every cast member onboard. Just like every part of our entertainment programme, it has been carefully curated to naturally bring together like-minded sailors and help them form rich bonds with each other, elevating their overall Virgin Voyages experience.” CFR
