9 9 Chantier Naval de Marseille, France Beginning with Carnival Glory’s arrival on 14 June, Chantier Naval de Marseille has carried out dry docks on three Carnival Cruise Line vessels over the summer. The shipyard’s team completed work on Carnival Glory’s shafts and also cleaned, blasted and painted the ship’s hill with the new Carnival livery. Carnival Dream’s hull was also cleaned, blasted and painted, and three thrusters and two stabilisers were repaired. Finally, Chantiers Naval de Marseille carried out steel works onboard Carnival Valor, before again painting the ship with the cruise line’s new livery, replacing six thrusters and repairing the stabilisers. Fincantieri, Italy Fincantieri delivered Star Pride, the third ship undergoing modernisation as part of Windstar Cruises’ Star Plus Initiative, at its shipyard in Palermo in October. Work on the ship included the installation of a new 25.6-metre mid-section, the replacement of the propulsion engines and diesel generators for a more environmentally responsible navigation, and an extensive refurbishment of public areas, passenger cabins and open decks. Before the start of extension works, the 10,000gt Star Pride was 134 metres long and had capacity for 212 passengers. The ship is now approximately 160 metres long, has a gross tonnage of around 13,000 tons, and capacity for 312 passengers.
