3 4 CFI CURATED How light can enhance guest cabins Expert insight Light has a significant impact on guests’ well-being, according to lighting manufacturer L&S Italia. Scientific research has shown that its effects operate on several levels: visual, cognitive, emotional and biological. Therefore, it is important to be able to fine-tune lighting, especially in spaces like interior cabins. Human central lighting (HCL) technology from L&S Italia provides a simple and innovative way for shipowners to change lights according to the time of day. For the cruise sector, L&S Italia has designed a specific Solaris lighting panel using HCL technology, which can replicate the light filtered through a window in order to make the time spent in the cabin more enjoyable. Specially made ‘light scenes’ can also be set up based on personal preferences and the intended activities over the course of the day. Mdesigns creates Cocoon Dining solution In cooperation with shipbuilding experts, Mdesigns has developed Cocoon Dining, a modular solution which enables guests and crew to safely socially distance in onboard restaurants. The materials used for the Cocoon Dining solution are anti- microbial and easy to clean. Meanwhile, the compact design helps to optimise the restaurants’ capacity, allowing more guests to be served simultaneously. The customisable style enables clients to offer their guests the same experience they are used to, while also enabling them to observe safety practices. Greenery specialist Dauerflora has created new room dividers and partition walls to prevent the spread of infection onboard passenger ships. All the partitions come in different designs, heights and widths. One model combines acrylic glass with ultra- light panels that are International Maritime Organization- certified and have an antibacterial surface. The panels are manufactured using materials from Pfleiderer and Fipro. New Dauerflora products will boost onboard hygiene Hospitality example
