Oceania Cruises has launched new Go Local tours to provide passengers with more authentic and immersive cruise experiences once ashore.
The exclusive excursions come as part of the brand’s OceaniaNEXT enhancements, which also includes the introduction of a plant-based menu and a unique art collection onboard Sirena. Guests will be taken beyond the tourist attractions to experience the local culture first-hand and will also be welcomed into family homes.
“On our new Go Local tours, you don’t see the highlights or even visit a landmark,” said Bob Binder, president and CEO of Oceania Cruises. “On these tours you are being introduced to local artisans, shopping local markets, and quite literally becoming part of a local family. You’re learning about and experiencing generations-old traditions and the ways of their day-to-day lives.”
There are over 120 tours currently on offer throughout Europe, Alaska and South America. Options include ‘Fishing with The Natives in Portofino, Italy’, where guests will spend the day at sea with a local fishing crew, enjoy the fresh fish in a traditionally prepared meal, and finish up with a swim in the sea off the coast of Portofino. Another option is for guests to be a ‘Shepherd for a Day in Mahon, Spain’, where they can learn about the milking and shearing of sheep, and how to make goats’ cheese.
