Cruise Baltic has released the Cruise Baltic Sustainability Report 2019, which collects the results of sustainability initiatives by the 29 cruise destinations that signed the Cruise Baltic Sustainability Manifesto.
Created in May 2019, the manifesto commits the cruise association and destinations to the aim of making cruising a sustainable holiday option in 2030. The new report follows up on the objectives of the manifesto by highlighting relevant initiatives taken by the ports during the past year.
The broad range of initiatives includes new bike and Segway docks for cruise guests in Gdansk, Poland, and Klaipeda, Lithuania while in Tallinn, Estonia, locals have been invited to plant flowers in the cruise area. Aarhus in Denmark organised a team of volunteers to greet guests and became the first port in the country to grant a discount to ships that operate sustainably.
“In May 2019, we all returned home from the Baltic Sustainable Cruise Conference in Copenhagen where the manifesto was signed to execute the goals we set together,” said Claus Bødker, director of Cruise Baltic. “A year later, the Cruise Baltic Sustainability Report shows that the manifesto makes a sustained difference and that we together take major steps towards a more sustainable future. It is fantastic to experience such great motivation and not least initiatives creating sustainable changes across the entire industry.”
