Celebrity Cruises has ordered a fifth Edge-class ship from French shipbuilder Chantiers de l'Atlantique, which will be delivered in autumn 2024.
Like the other Edge-class ships, the fifth in the series will likely offer multiple dining venues, guest accommodation with Infinite Verandas, an expansive spa, a rooftop garden venue, a Grand Plaza, the three-deck-high Eden dining and entertainment venue, and the Magic Carpet. This is a platform the size of a tennis court that can be moved up and down the side of the ship and positioned at four different levels to provide additional space for restaurants, the pool deck and the Destination Gateway, an embarkation station for guests joining tenders to get to shore.
“Celebrity Edge has delighted our guests and affirmed Celebrity Cruises as the leading modern luxury brand,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “Chantiers de l'Atlantique has been a brilliant partner and we look forward to creating another amazing vessel with them.”
Chantiers de l’Atlantique delivered the first of the Edge-class series, Celebrity Edge, on 31 October 2018 ahead of her christening with godmother and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai at Port Everglades in Florida, US on 4 December. The second, Celebrity Apex, will be delivered in 2020 and the third, Celebrity Beyond, will debut in 2021. The fourth, which has yet to be named, is to join the fleet in 2022.
“We are really proud and happy to have built such an outstanding relationship with our customer, based on mutual trust and driven by the spirit of innovation,” said Laurent Castaing, general manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique. “After the four Millennium-class ships at the beginning of 2000s and the four Edge-class ships, this is the ninth ship ordered by Celebrity Cruises at our shipyard and it will be the 24th vessel built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique and operated by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd [Celebrity's parent company].This is a real testimony of the exceptional level of cooperation we reached together.”
