Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) is to use Weather Decision Technologies’ WeatherOps risk mitigation system on 47 vessels in three cruise brands and in its Miami-based emergency operations centres.
From November 2017, captains onboard ships in the Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises brands will be able to use WDT’s WeatherOps platform to analyse weather conditions and plan safe routes worldwide.
“We are extremely excited to be using WDT’s innovative technology to ensure that our ships and captains can plan the safest route possible for our guests and crew members,” said James Van Fleet, chief meteorologist at Royal Caribbean International. “Our goal is always to make sure our guests have the best vacation possible and this technology helps us do that.”
RCCL’s shoreside team in Miami will also use WeatherOps to support captains and ensure that logistics across all aspects of the company’s operation are handled with respect to any weather hazards or delays.
“We’re pleased to work with a client like RCCL who will not only use our service to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, but also help WDT innovate and ultimately reach deeper into various offshore applications for weather information,” said Michael Eilts, WDT president and CEO. “RCCL’s Vision and Values statement reads ‘To deliver the best vacation experience’, and we are here to help the company in every way possible.”
