Scandinavian ferry operator Viking Line recorded more than 30% growth in passenger numbers on its routes between Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia in June 2017, compared to June 2016.

To meet further increased demand for the summer season, Viking Line will offer a record 12 sailings between Helsinki and Tallinn per day. Both Viking XPRS and the new Viking FSTR catamaran will continue to offer sailings to Tallinn. Between 1 July and 6 August, the Helsinki– Stockholm ferries Mariella and Gabriella will also travel to Estonia’s capital, rather than remaining docked in Helsinki during the day.

Introduced in April 2017, Viking FSTR has capacity for 120 cars and 850 passengers and offers crossings of less than two hours. The vessel has already been used by more than 150,000 passengers.

“The demand for departures between Helsinki and Tallinn is at its highest during the summer,” said Jaakko Ahti, route manager at Viking Line. “We are glad that the Viking FSTR catamaran enables us to offer our customers a record number of departures and more travel options this year.”
