Hungarian producer Mariann Peller has been named as the godmother for Crystal River Cruises’ latest newbuild, Crystal Ravel, which will be christened on 11 July in Budapest.

Peller created ‘Virtuosos’, the world’s first televised classical music talent show, and also established the Young Virtuosos Foundation to support young classical musicians and preserve Hungary’s musical heritage. During the christening ceremony, Peller will deliver a traditional blessing and then preside over a performance by the Young Virtuosos artists and tenor Steffan Mullan.

“It is an honour to be a part of this momentous occasion and to join the Crystal Family, as we share a passion for exploring and celebrating the cultural treasures of Europe and sharing those experiences with people around the world,” Peller said. “Crystal ships and voyages are lauded for fine nuances and a superb standard of excellence, which is the distinction of a masterpiece of any kind.”

Crystal will also make a donation to the Young Virtuosos Foundation during the naming ceremony, which will be broadcast via Facebook Live on Crystal Cruises’ Facebook page.

“We are delighted to welcome Mariann Peller to the Crystal family, as her passion for the classical arts in her home country and around the world is the perfect complement to the spirit of the Crystal River Experience,” said Tom Wolber, Crystal president and CEO. “It is also a pleasure to welcome the young performers of Virtuosos to the celebration and bring the exceptional talents of the region’s classical musicians to our guests.”

Crystal Ravel, which is the fourth of Crystal’s all-suite Rhine Class river vessels, accommodates 106 guests and will sail itineraries along the Danube and Rhine rivers between Budapest, Basel in Switzerland, Vienna in Austria and Nuremburg in Germany. Onboard, guests will benefit from butler service in every room category, king-sized beds, panoramic balcony-windows, walk-in closets and a dual vanity in the bathrooms in most categories, ETRO amenities, robes and slippers, and wall-mounted flat-screen HD TVs. Guests will also be able to enjoy farm-to-table cuisine in open-seating eateries, such as Waterside Restaurant, Bistro café and Vintage Room. Entertainment and enrichment presentations will take place in Palm Court.
