Silversea Cruises is to debut a new flagship, Silver Muse, in spring 2017.

To be built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, the 40,000gt newbuild will accommodate 596 guests and will ‘redefine ultra-luxury ocean travel’ with suites and various onboard enhancements. Additional details will be released over the coming months.

“With enhanced design specifications and enriched content, Silver Muse will continue to build on the sophistication, innovative style and ground-breaking concepts for which Silversea ships are renowned,” said Enzo Visone, Silversea’s CEO. “This ship contributes to our ambitious growth plans that will ensure our continued leadership in ultra-luxury cruising.”

The announcement follows months of speculation about a newbuild, which was prompted when Norwegian supplier Scanship revealed it had been contracted to deliver a Total Clean Ship System for a new Silversea ship earlier this year.

Silversea’s order also joins an increasingly growing order book at Fincantieri. Earlier this month, the yard confirmed it would build three mid-size ships for new line Viking Cruises, which will be delivered in 2020, 2021 and 2022. It has also recently moved Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Vista and Viking Ocean Cruises’ Viking Sea from the building dock, and started work on Seabourn Cruises’ Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation, which will launch in January 2016 and spring 2018 respectively.
