Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisper embarked on her 116-day World Cruise 2017 from the Port of San Francisco on 6 January, marking the first time the company has started a world cruise in the US city.

Port officials hosted a ceremony to celebrate the vessel’s maiden call in the city, exchanging commemorative plaques with Mark Conroy, Silversea’s managing director for the Americas, and Silver Whisper’s staff captain Zbigniew Jaszewski.

The evening prior to embarking on their world cruise to Monte Carlo, Silver Whisper's guests enjoyed a gala bon voyage dinner and live music presentation hosted in the main ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco.

“World Cruise 2017 was designed to be an extraordinary global adventure, and we’re delighted to have the voyage depart from such an extraordinary and incredibly beautiful city as San Francisco,” said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea CEO. “Silver Whisper’s guests, about 80% of whom are members of our Venetian Society loyalty club, will visit 62 ports in 25 countries, while enjoying an onboard experience completely revitalised by the ship’s recent major renovation.”

Next year, Silver Whisper will embark on a 121-day ‘La Grande Bellezza’ world cruise from Los Angeles to Rome, Italy. Departing 6 January, the voyage will take guests to 60 destinations in 21 countries worldwide and offer 17 overnight calls and 13 late-night stays.

Sailing west across the Pacific to Hawaii, French Polynesia and New Zealand, the ship will pass through the Java Sea to Bali, Probolinggo, Semarang, Borneo and various islands in the Philippines. After two nights in Hong Kong and overnight stays in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Bangkok in Thailand and Singapore, Silver Whisper will follow the historic spice trade route to Sri Lanka, India, and Oman. The vessel will then continue through the Red Sea to Luxor in Egypt and Petra in Jordan, before calling at the Greek Islands and sailing along the coast of Italy to Rome.
