Scanship is to retrofit an advanced wastewater purification (AWP) system onboard one of Carnival Cruise Line's existing ships.

The unnamed ship will be the latest in a series of Carnival vessels that are equipped with Scanship's AWP systems. The line's newest ships – Carnival Horizon and Carnival Vista – already use the technology to treat wastewater before it is discharged into the ocean, and it will be fitted to Carnival Panorama before she debuts in 2019.

Using Scanship's technology will enable Carnival to comply with the International Maritime Organization’s MARPOL MEPC 227(64) regulation.

“We at Scanship are thrilled to be working with Carnival Cruise Line and are impressed by its commitment for cleaner oceans and sustainable seafaring,” said Henrik Badin, CEO of Scanship.
