Portsmouth International Port is gearing up to handle 13 cruise calls in May, the busiest month of 2016.
Eight vessels will make turnaround calls, embarking and disembarking passengers at the UK port, while a further five will visit for a day. These will include Quark Expeditions’ Ocean Nova, Voyages of Discovery’s Voyager and National Geographic’s NG Explorer, which will arrive at the port with 146 guests on 11 May as part of a 15-day cruise around the coast of England, Ireland, Scotland and Bergen, Norway.
Meanwhile, Noble Caledonia’s Serenissima will sail four weeklong itineraries from Portsmouth from 1 May, while Swan Hellenic’s Minerva will sail two roundtrips from the port.
The largest ship to visit in 2016 will be Phoenix Reisen’s Albatros, which is more than 200m in length and will call with more than 800 passengers on 10 May.
“We’ve grown used to May being the busiest month, but each year it looks and feels very different,” said Rupert Taylor, Portsmouth's harbour master. “This year we are looking forward to seeing new expedition ships, including NG Orion, as well as old favourites like Minerva. The range of holidays on offer changes too, with a wonderful selection of destinations to choose from.”
