Cruise ship entertainment provider Peel Entertainment has created a new virtual reality (VR) experience for young guests to enjoy when sailing onboard the ships in Marella Cruises’ fleet.

Peel Entertainment, which already provides technicians, bands, musicians, entertainment and game show hosts for Marella Cruises, has developed the ‘Mad Hatter's Tea at Sea‘ VR experience, which is based on Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland novels and is targeted at children aged 3-11 years old.

Guests wear headsets and use a smartphone to navigate a series of puzzles and adventures before arriving at a real door (which mirrors a virtual door) where they join a real-life tea party hosted by Peel Entertainment's professional actors playing the characters of Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit. Here, they complete a final test before enjoying aternoon tea and a game of flamingo croquet.

“This unique piece of onboard entertainment was not only conceived and scripted by Peel, but the VR experience was programmed and designed by our sister company, Peel Interactive, well known for its pioneering work in creating astonishingly immersive digital experiences,” said Kerry Daley, creative director of Peel Entertainment. “Mad Hatters Tea at Sea, which only went live this summer on Marella Cruises' Discovery and Discovery 2 ships, has already been applauded for the incredible way it seamlessly mixes the real and the virtual worlds.”
