One Ocean Expeditions (OOE) will expand its fleet with a third polar-class expedition cruise ship, which will sail her inaugural polar voyage in Canada in November 2018.
Reports suggest that the ship will be the 146-passenger Hanseatic, which is currently on charter to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises until September 2018. The vessel was originally built as Society Adventurer for Society Expeditions in 1993 at Finnyards in Rauma, Finland – the same yard that produced OOE’s Akademik Ioffe and Akademik Sergey Vavilov.
The vessel will be named RCGS Resolute in honour of HMS Resolute, a British Royal Navy Arctic exploration vessel, and the Inuit town of Resolute in Canada’s Nunavut Territory. The ship also carries the name ‘RCGS’ in recognition of OOE’s education, environmental science, and expedition partnership with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society in Canada’s north. The partnership enables passengers to take excursions with world-renowned educators, researchers, naturalists, marine biologists, artists, historians and photographers.
RCGS Resolute is equipped with modern stabilisation technology and has ice classification (Lloyds 1AS) that is compliant with the new Polar code.
Onboard features will include two dining rooms with open seating, modern furnishings and large windows offering 180-degree views; two separate bar and lounge areas with 180-degree views; a library; a theatre-style presentation room; a gift shop, a gymnasium, and a wellness centre with a Finnish-built dry heat sauna, a spa, steam room, saltwater pool, and a fresh water jacuzzi.
