Valletta Cruise Port welcomed Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Star for the first time on 14 October.

A Maltese village band played music as the ship entered the port, while Minister Michael Farrugia boarded the ship to welcome the guests, crew and captain to Valletta. Before leaving port later that day, passengers and crew were able to enjoy a traditional dance performance, which was organised by Malta Tourism Authority.

Next year, Valletta will host a record 700,000 cruise passengers. Norwegian Star and Norwegian Spirit will make a combined total of 20 departures from the port, which will amount to more than 45,000 passenger movements.

“Malta is a vibrant destination and this is reflected in our port and ongoing developments in the Maltese Islands,” said Stephen Xuereb, CEO of the port and COO of Global Ports Holding. “Valletta Cruise Port has created a destination within a destination with the original project. We are currently taking stock of how we can further improve our key infrastructure and services. It is this journey of discovery that will allow us to continue exceling in what we offer, and together with other stakeholders reinvest ourselves to keep abreast of new developments.”
