Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss has become the largest ship to traverse the Panama Canal since it was expanded in 2016.

Norwegian Bliss, which is the line’s newest and largest ship, passed through the new set of locks on 14 May as part of her cruise to Los Angeles, California.

Located on both the Atlantic and Pacific sides of the canal, the locks were constructed as part of the biggest enhancement project since the canal opened in 1914.

“We are very proud to showcase our newest ship and celebrate one more exciting milestone with Norwegian Bliss as the largest passenger ship to transit the new Panama Canal,” said Andy Stuart, president and CEO of Norwegian. “We are excited for this 16th ship in our young and modern fleet to begin welcoming guests in her homeport of Seattle and provide them with the outstanding service, dining, entertainment and amenities for which we are recognised.”

Norwegian took delivery of Norwegian Bliss in Bremerhaven, Germany on 19 April 2018, after which she began her preview tour of Europe. After crossing the Atlantic, the ship hosted events in New York City from 4-6 May and Miami, Florida from 8-10 May. The vessel will be part of more preview events in Los Angeles from 25-27 May and then head to Seattle, Washington for her official christening on 30 May.
