Incat Crowther has released design plans for a new Citywide Ferry Service, which will be operated by Hornblower in New York City, US from summer 2017.

Developed in collaboration with Hornblower, the new 150-passenger vessels will have spacious interiors, disabled access, wide aisles, a concession stand and wifi. The foredeck will also house bicycle racks and space for pushchairs.

The ferries have also been designed to meet operational and regulatory requirements, so they will have low wash, high fuel efficiency and low emissions, and will be able to operate in cold water.

“Incat Crowther was selected because of its specialisation and vast experience in naval architecture and design of efficient passenger ferries,” said Junior Volpe, director of Special Projects for Hornblower.

Already, Incat Crowther has delivered production engineering to satisfy an aggressive build schedule at multiple shipyards, with at least a dozen boats scheduled to be delivered in 2017.

“Incat Crowther is proud to be involved in such a significant project in one of the busiest cities in the world,” said Grant Pecoraro, general manager of Incat Crowther’s North America office. “We look forward to solidifying our position as a world leader for vessel designs in this type of operation.”

Introduced by Mayor Bill de Blasio, the Citywide Ferry Service will provide a network of ferries serving all of New York City by the end of 2018. The new service includes longer runs to the Rockaways in 2017, along with South Brooklyn and Astoria. Service to the Lower East Side in Manhattan and Soundview in the Bronx begins in 2018.
