Cruise ship visitors to the Hawaiian Islands increased by 23.2% in the first three quarters of 2017, to 86,061, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

The total number of visitors to the islands in the same period increased by 4.9% to 7,017,268.

The cruise ship visitors entered Hawaii aboard 47 out-of-state cruise ships. In comparison, 37 cruise ships with 69,863 visitors came to Hawaii during the first nine months of 2016.

Arrivals by air increased 4.7% to 6,931,187. These figures include 96,223, an increase of 17.8%, who arrived by air to embark Pride of America, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Hawaii homeported cruise ship. Although in the equivalent period in 2016 the ship spent four weeks in dry dock in San Francisco for refurbishment.

Total cruise visitors, including arrivals by cruise ship and by air to board Pride of America, increased by 20.3% to 182,304.
