Norway-based Havyard Production & Service (HPR) is to carry out electrical work in two out of seven zones onboard Celebrity Cruises’ four new Celebrity Edge class ships.

HPR has agreed a NOK 80 million (US$ 94.7 million) contract with shipbuilder STX France and will begin working on the first newbuild in Saint Nazaire, France this April. The Celebrity Edge project will continue until 2022.

“As with other companies that have had their biggest market within offshore shipbuilding, we currently see that there are challenging times,” said Nedim Jakupovic, managing director of HPR. “HPR has therefore had an increased focus on other markets, and we have now received our first contract within the cruise ship segment. This is an important breakthrough for us. The contract is also pleasing because we are able to secure employment for a large number of our employees for several years ahead.”

Celebrity Edge, the first in the series of 2,918-guest, 117,000gt vessels, will debut in December 2018 with various innovations. She will be followed by Celebrity Beyond in autumn 2020, and the third and fourth ships in autumn 2021 and 2022, respectively. There is also an option for a fifth vessel.
