UK-based commercial flooring solutions provider Forbo Flooring Systems has released a new report highlighting the design trends that are transforming the travel sector.

The Transport Sector Design Trend Report outlines how consumer demand to remain connected and productive while travelling is driving companies to rethink traditional interior designs for various types of public transport. Touching on how designers are using technology and techniques such as colour theory to enhance the passenger experience, the study showcases various examples of new train, bus, coach and aeroplane designs from around the world.

In addition, International Cruise & Ferry Review’s executive editor Jon Ingleton also highlights some of the top design, colour and technology trends that are influencing the design of cruise ship interiors.

Ingleton explores how wearable technologies, interactive digital screens and wayfinding systems, varied stateroom types, colour palettes and more will transform and personalise the cruise experience. He also predicts that a growing number of interior designers will increasingly share a story – or a series of stories – about their inspiration for the design of certain venues or features so cruise line staff and passengers can feel more connected to the ship. Plus, the report provides an overview of the recent refurbishments onboard Thomson Cruises’ TUI Discovery and Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 to illustrate how these design trends are being put into practice.
