Europa 2 rejoined the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ fleet on 24 April following a two-week drydock at the Blohm + Voss yard in Hamburg, Germany.

During the drydock, more than 600 specialists from around 80 international companies carried out modernisation work and cosmetic upgrades. In total, more than 4,500 sqm of new carpets were laid, while 2,000 litres of paint were applied to the ship.

Europa 2’s Sansibar bar was fitted with a ‘chandelier’ consisting of 1,000 wine bottles, wood panelling and room dividers formed of wine crates with integrated seating.

Eight family apartments were also modernised. Each split suite now features an area designed specifically for younger passengers, which includes a baby changing table, a children’s bathroom with bathtub, bunk beds, a play area with a painting and games table and a Playstation 4 gaming console.

In addition, the Sushi Restaurant Sakura on Deck 9 was also repainted with a new colour palette and fitted with wooden lights and room dividers featuring built-in LED candles to create a more authentic Japanese sushi restaurant.

After departing the Blohm + Voss yard, Europa 2 embarked on an eight-day roundtrip from Hamburg. She will call at Rouen, France; Antwerp and Ghent in Belgium; and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
