Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) and Blount Boats are to design and build a new passenger-only ferry for Governors Island in New York, US.

Contracted by The Trust For Governors Island (Trust), EBDG will provide contract and detail designs for the 132-foot-long vessel, which will comply with US Coast Guard regulations. The company will also support the delivery of the vessel.

“EBDG looks forward to working with Blount and designing a quality vessel for the Trust,” said Matt Williamson, project manager at EBDG.

Blount Boats will build the ferry at its full-service shipyard in Warren, Rhode Island, led by project manager and vice president Robert Pelletier.

“Blount Boats is honoured to have been chosen by the Trust to build another iconic vessel for New York Harbor,” said Marcia Blount, president of Blount Boats.

The new ferry will be able to accommodate 400 passengers and will provides services between Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan and Soissons Landing on Governors Island.
