Global classification society DNV GL is to classify Crystal Yacht Cruises’ three new 20,000gt mega yachts, which will be constructed by MV Werften in Stralsund, Germany.

The three Endeavor expedition yachts will be among the first passenger ships in the world to be classified according to DNV GL’s new building regulations.

“We are very pleased to be able to classify these innovative ships,” said Matthias Ritters, regional manager Germany at DNV GL - Maritime. “It is a special honour for us that MV Werften and Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises have entrusted us with such an innovative and ground-breaking project.”

MV Werften will start building the first of the three newbuilds at the end of 2017 and begin delivering the vessels in 2019. Built to ice-class Polar 6 standards, the yachts will be able to sail in the Arctic, Antarctica and the tropics.

“The extensive experience in the classification of newbuilds makes DNV GL a strong and reliable partner for us,” said Guido Schulte, director of project planning and construction at MV Werften.
