Damen Shipyards Group, Netherlands Shipping Training Centre (NSTC) and maritime training organisation STC-Group have developed a training course for the Philippines-based ferry crew.

The training package will provide information about rules and regulations (ISM code), teach the practices of crew and crisis management, and also focuses on cross cultural differences.

“Safety is our trade and in the case of the Philippines, it is of the utmost importance,” said Martijn Voorham, general manager of NSTC. “This is an island nation where a large amount of transportation is carried out by sea and, especially on a ferry carrying passengers, safety is paramount.”

Damen will make the training package available to attendees at the Interferry Conference in Manila, Philippines this week.

“Giving gifts at the Interferry Conference is something of a tradition for Damen,” said Henk Grunstra, Damen’s product director for ferries. “This year we wanted to offer something that would really make a difference. Teaming up with NSTC to offer this training is a sign of the commitment Damen has to improving maritime safety internationally.”
