Crystal Cruises has added new onshore Crystal Wilderness Adventures to its line-up of more than 100 excursions during Crystal Serenity’s 2017 Northwest Passage Explorer voyage.

Some of the new Crystal Wilderness Adventures will include arctic scuba diving from Cambridge Bay, taking a floatplane to go fly fishing for Arctic Char on the Ekaluk River, a chartered flight to the Hamlet of Gjoa Haven, and a visit to watch traditional performance by the Artcirq circus troupe in Iglooplik, the cultural epicentre for the Inuit people. Guests can also enjoy a three-day visit to Grise Fjord on the northernmost tip of Canada/Ellesmere/Greenland.

Other at-sea and onshore adventures range wildlife sightings, trekking across glaciers, and golfing on the open tundra of Canada’s Northwest Territories. When possible, Crystal Serenity’s captain will also position the ship to offer impromptu ‘Unexpected Adventures’, including Zodiac landings on glaciers, kayaking in protected bays, helicopter departures off the deck of Ernest Shackleton for landings on remote and uninhabited areas. Likewise, the expedition teams will alert guests to spontaneous wildlife sightings as they are sailing.

Crystal Serenity will be accompanied by an escort ship, which will be stocked with adventure equipment including Zodiacs, kayaks and a helicopter.

“The extent of discovery possible in the Northwest Passage is virtually limitless, and we are thrilled to offer our guests more choices than ever to fully explore this astounding and fascinating region,” said Edie Rodriguez, Crystal’s CEO and president.

Crystal Serenity will embark on her second Northwest Passage voyage from Seward on 15 August 2017, following through the territories of Alaska, Canada and Greenland that are rarely explored by recreational travellers. The 32-day voyage will take guests to New York, US; Kodiak, Dutch Harbor and Nome, Alaska; Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories; Cambridge Bay and Pond Inlet, Nunavut, Canada; Ilulissat, Sisimiut and Nuuk, Greenland; Bar Harbor, Maine; Boston, Massachusetts; and Newport, Rhode Island. Notable passages include the Bering, Beaufort, Chukchi, and Labrador Seas, the fjords of Baffin Island, the Bellot, Victoria, Dolphin and Union Straits, Beechey Island/Radstock Bay, and Peel Sound.
