Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) UK & Ireland has formed a new expedition cruise working group and will host its first expedition cruise-focused event in 2019.

Chaired by Silversea UK’s managing director Peter Shanks, the new expedition working group will comprise executives from Celebrity Cruises, Aurora Expeditions, Ponant, Holland America Line, Seabourn and Crystal Cruises. The group has been created to help cruise lines and travel agents capitalise on the growing demand for expedition cruises, which is reflected in the fact that 10 new ships are due for delivery in 2019 and a further five will debut in 2020. “We’re delighted to announce that CLIA will be hosting expedition cruise training events in the future,” said Andy Harmer, director of CLIA UK & Ireland. “This, along with our dedicated working group, will help agents capitalise on the growing popularity in this sector. As travel agents see more requests from their customers for adventure voyages, it’s important that they can feel knowledgeable and confident in selling these types of cruises.”

CLIA UK & Ireland’s first expedition cruise event will take place on 28 March 2019 in London, UK. Experts from both the cruise and other industries will give talks about the latest trends.
