Carnival Corporation has completed a multi-million-dollar redesign and upgrade of Cruise Terminal 2 at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Used exclusively by the company’s Princess Cruises brand, the renovated terminal now features a more streamlined departure design, interactive experiences, a movie theatre showing original films and more comfortable pre-boarding areas.
The terminal has been equipped with Carnival Corporation’s proprietary xIoT (experiential internet of things) network, which is activated by the company’s new Ocean Medallion wearable technology. This will enable guests sailing on Princess’s Medallion Class ships to benefit from expedited boarding and a more personalised arrival experience when they enter the terminal.
Medallion Class guests will also be able to interact with the Ocean Tagalong – a digital companion they can create ahead of their cruise – on a large LED screen that surrounds the terminal’s Ocean Portal area just beyond the security and check-in areas. A second interactive Ocean Tagalong experience is available on the terminal’s second floor.
Terminal 2 also now has Carnival Corporation’s new MedallionNet connectivity service, which provides cruise guests in the terminal and onboard Medallion Class ships with access to high-speed internet. Improved internet access will enable guests to play one of the company’s PlayOcean Everywhere mobile games before or after boarding.
“When our guests arrive at the terminal excited about their cruise, that’s a great opportunity for us to begin immersing them in a more personalised and hassle-free vacation experience,” said John Padgett, chief experience and innovation officer for Carnival Corporation. “We have completely transformed the arrival so that our guests can board at a pace that’s more relaxed and convenient for them. Our focus is on the entire guest experience with a special emphasis on making the arrival experience exceptional. From guests’ homes through the cruise terminal and to their stateroom, every guest engagement is intended to maximise their vacation experience.”
Regal Princess will be the first ship to depart from the newly redesigned terminal, offering a series of preview Ocean Medallion Vacations.
