Bristol Port in the UK welcomed its 25,000th cruise passenger on 21 April, just three years after opening to cruise traffic in 2013.

To mark the milestone, the port presented the 25,000th passenger, Bernadette Clark, with champagne and flowers as she boarded Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ Astoria. Clark, who was travelling with her companion Richard Lawson, is one of Bristol’s most prolific cruisers, having spent 115 nights onboard Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ cruise vessels over the past three years.

The terminal was decorated with bunting and decorations to mark Clark’s arrival and the Queen’s 90th birthday, also on 21 April.

“It was such a surprise to be chosen for such a special occasion,” said Clark. “I knew it was the Queen’s 90th birthday and I thought that the cruise terminal was decorated to celebrate that special event. I did not realise it was for me as well! I love the convenience of the Bristol cruise terminal and I am thrilled and proud to be its 25,000th passenger.”

Bristol Port Company purchased the port from Bristol City Council 25 years ago and has since invested more than £475 million to create a modern facility offering the full range of shipping, cruising distribution and logistics services. More events are planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary later in the year.

“The Bristol Port Company only entered the world of cruise in 2013 and we are honoured to be embarking our 25,000th passenger,” said James Stangroom, the port’s business development manager. “Everyone pulls together to ensure our passengers’ holidays get off to the best possible start – from our hardworking security and baggage handlers, to our World Host-trained team of dedicated volunteers.”
