Barge would provide low-emission power to cruise ships in accordance with Norway’s fjords and ports

Becker Marine Systems aims to offer its LNG Hybrid Barge technology to cruise operators sailing their ships into Norwegian ports and fjords.
The barge, which has already been successfully tested at the Port of Hamburg in Germany, would provide low-emission power to cruise ships in accordance with Norway’s strict environmental legislation.
“We would like to offer the barge technology, which has successfully been operated at the Port of Hamburg in the last three years, in a larger design for use in cruise ships anchored in fjords and are already in discussions about this with Norwegian port and cruise ship operators,” said
Dirk Lehmann, managing director of Becker Marine Systems. “The implementation of another barge employing flexible LNG technology has also attracted interest from China and Spain, where cruise ships can be operated year-round.”
Becker Marine Systems will showcase the LNG Hybrid Barge technology at Nor-Shipping, which is taking place in Oslo, Norway from 30 May to 2 June 2017.
The company will also demonstrate its manoeuvring systems and the new COBRA - Compact Battery Rack, which is built from efficient li-ion battery cells and specifically designed for maritime use. It has already received an initial order for the COBRA battery system for a German passenger ship, which will begin operation in mid-July.
