American Cruise Lines’ new riverboat American Song is set to arrive at the Port of New Orleans in Louisiana, US this week after successfully completing her sea trials.

Constructed by Chesapeake Shipbuilding, American Song has been billed as the “first modern riverboat in US history” and passed a series of tests with “flying colours”.

The vessel will sail an inaugural cruise from New Orleans to Memphis, Tennessee on 6 October and then offer a full schedule of eight-day ‘Lower Mississippi River’ cruises from New Orleans until the end of 2018. Following this, the vessel will reposition to the US West Coast and sail ‘Columbia and Snake Rivers’ cruises.

American Song’s sister ship, American Harmony, will be delivered by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in the first quarter of 2019.

“American Cruise Lines is proud of its commitment to building only new advanced ships,” said the cruise line in a press release. “Every new ship in the line’s expanding fleet is built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding and showcases the finest American design and craftsmanship. American maintains the largest US-flagged fleet and continues to expand year after year, offering guests the widest range of gracefully appointed and technically superior ships in the industry.”
