Almaco is to renovate all guest accommodation onboard Star Cruises’ SuperStar Virgo as she is converted into Explorer Dream for sister brand Dream Cruises. The renovation will take place at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore and see Almaco refresh all cabins and build a new 80 square-metre VIP galley on deck 10.

The overhaul will also include the refurbishment of 543 cabins’ wallpaper, carpet, artwork, curtains and other soft goods, the conversion of 44 passenger cabins into 22 Bay suites, the construction of two brand new Palace suites and the modernisation of 150 metres of corridors.

“We are proud to be able to work with the Genting team once more after the success of Crystal Serenity and utilise our efficiencies in engineering, logistics and project management to reach the extremely tight deadlines,” said Tommi Virta, Almaco’s project manager for the accommodation renovation.

The most complex aspects of the overhaul were the logistics of sourcing material and labour and handling the transportation for the docking in Singapore.

“With only two months between the order being placed and the initiation of the project, Almaco’s project management and purchasing department achieved the utmost levels of efficiency once more to transport 160 tons of materials via air freight, utilising one complete cargo plane booked by Almaco to transport materials from Europe to Singapore,” said Jean-Pierre Lepage, president of Service at Almaco and project manager for the catering areas of the renovation.
